Where it began
Our passion for Berners started early in life, before turning 10. Our first encounter with a Bernese was in one of those “Breeds of the World” encyclopedias. It became a dream to own one of these majestic, gorgeous dogs that honestly sounded way too good to be true.
Around age 11 or 12, there was “Lola” (try not to think about the Copacabana song now). She was the first Bernese we met out in the wild, in the middle of a city. With tears of joy while hugging Lola, the dream of owning a Bernese solidified into a life-long passion.

Fast forward 25 years or more, and enter Kardia, the very core of our family.
From passion to veterinary medicine
Alongside our obsession with Berners, we have a true passion for animal medicine, nutrition and behavior. I hold a degree in Veterinary Medicine. I no longer practice clinically, but that training shapes how I care for our dogs every day.
My years in veterinary medicine took me through animal clinics, emergency hospitals, shelters, zoos and rescues, and what I learned there is part of our dogs’ daily lives. It is that background, together with a life-long love of the Bernese, that drives us to give future generations the best foundation we can. We are constantly learning and improving our practices.
We consider breeding Berners a privilege, and loving them our passion.
