Foster-to-adopt program
Would you like to Foster-to-adopt one of our adult Berners?
Let’s chat.
Why do we need to Foster?
In order to maintain a high level of genetic diversity and standard of care, sometimes we need to make a little room for new genetics, and new lineages. While we love our dogs dearly, we also understand the responsibility of breeding to a high standard, and this comes with difficult decisions sometimes.
At this time, our goofy boy Louis is available as a foster-to-adopt candidate.
- Louis is an intact male, and needs to remain intact.
- He weighs around 110 lbs +/- 5 lbs.
- He is as goofy as a goat.
- He feels he is light as a feather, when in reality he is more like a bag of bricks.
- Sweet, gentle, loving with people and pets, he is a wonderful Berner and companion.
- He can be slow to warm up to certain people, but really quick to warm up to others, it’s all about energy.

It is a dream come true to be able to carry this renowned line in our family. The Stokerybos line is one of the best Bernese breeders in the world with over 60 championships and over 150 titles.
The Stokerybos line comes with a clean bill of health. Multi-generation clearances on hip and elbow dysplasias as well as (current) Bernese-specific genetic diseases.

If you are interested in fostering-to-adopt Louis
you must meet the following non-negotiable requirements:
- Must live within 100 miles of Albany, NY
- Must understand Louis will still participate in our program from time to time, and as such we may borrow him every now and then.
- He may not be neutered, unless deemed so for medical reasons.
- If going to a multiple-pet household, the females must be unable to breed.
- May not be bred to other dogs unless you have written consent from us.
- He will be placed with a contract specifying these and other requirements.
The following are preferences:
- We’d prefer a family that has had Berneses or a large breed dog in the past.
- Louis is very sweet, but he is also very strong, and we’d prefer someone that could handle that strength without a risk to themselves.
we are in no rush
We are in no rush to place our Looster bear. We cannot emphasize enough that he is in no way at risk or danger by any means, we are looking forward to meeting families that are interested in this program. To make sure the family is making an informed and right decision for them and their lifestyle, this process can (and likely will) take a few months.
