The Breed Standard: Same Breed, Different Build

Professor Bern and Professor Bernadette compare male and female Bernese side by side. Both are correct to the standard, each in their own way.
Key takeaways
  1. Same breed, same temperament, same standard. The differences are size, bone and proportion.
  2. Males stand 25–27.5 in and weigh 80–115 lbs. Females stand 23–26 in and weigh 70–95 lbs.
  3. Form follows function: the Bernese was bred as a working draft dog.
